Overview of Medical Marijuana Regulations (Massachusetts):

In Massachusetts in order to qualify for a Massachusetts marijuana card the following are required:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age
  2. Must be a resident in the state of Massachusetts with proof of residency
  3. The qualifying patient has been diagnosed by a physician as having a debilitating medical condition and has obtained medical records showing the diagnosis of that condition as outlined below for qualifying medical marijuana conditions.
  4. Once your physician has registered you with the Department of Public Health as a qualifying patient, you must obtain a Massachusetts Medical Marijuana Card from the state of Massachusetts.

All Massachusetts marijuana clients are required to have been diagnosed by a physician or a certified Massachusetts marijuana doctor as having a debilitating medical condition and has obtained medical records showing the diagnosis of that condition as outlined below for qualifying  conditions. Once your physician or certified Massachusetts marijuana doctor has registered you with the Department of Public Health as a qualifying patient, you must obtain a Massachusetts Medical Marijuana Card from the state of Massachusetts.

Massachusetts marijuana clients are allowed limited amounts of marijuana for home cultivation. Individual Massachusetts marijuana clients will be permitted to designate a “personal caregiver” at least 21 years old to cultivate for them if they are unable to access a state-authorized dispensary or if they can verify “financial hardship.”

Overview of Medical Marijuana Regulations (Rhode Island):

All Rhode Island marijuana clients are required to have been diagnosed by a physician or a certified Rhode Island marijuana doctor as having a debilitating medical condition and has obtained medical records showing the diagnosis of that condition as outlined below for qualifying medical marijuana conditions. Once your physician or certified Rhode Island marijuana doctor has registered you with the Department of Public Health as a qualifying patient, you must obtain a Rhode Island Medical Marijuana Card from the state of Rhode Island. Rhode Island marijuana clients are then allowed to possess up to two and one half ounces of Rhode Island medical marijuana.

Rhode Island marijuana clients are allowed up to 12 plants and 12 seedlings for home cultivation, which must be stored in an indoor facility. Two or more Rhode Island medical marijuana cardholders may cooperatively cultivate marijuana in residential or non-residential locations subject to the following restrictions: Non-residential – no more than 10 ounces of usable marijuana, 48 mature marijuana plants, and 24 seedlings. Residential – no more than 10 ounces of useable marijuana, 24 mature marijuana plants, and 12 seedlings.

Rhode Island medical marijuana caregivers must be 21 years of age or older. Primary caregivers may assist no more than 5 qualifying patients with their medical use of marijuana. The Rhode Island Medical Marijuana Program authorizes a patient with a debilitating medical condition, with a registry identification card (or its equivalent), to engage in the medical use of marijuana. Also authorizes a person to assist with the medical use of marijuana by a patient with a debilitating medical condition.
